14 year old Freddy Adu Bobblehead Day

WASHINGTON (AP) - Damani Ralph scored Chicago's first goal of the season on Freddy Adu bobblehead doll day to lift the Fire to a 1-0 win over D.C. United on Saturday.

Chicago (1-1-2) opened the season with 327 scoreless minutes, coming within 30 minutes of matching the MLS record held by the 1999 Kansas City Wizards.

The 14-year-old Adu didn't enter the game until the 72nd minute, the least he has played in any of United's four games this season.

However, Adu, who scored his first MLS goal last Saturday in New York, showed that he's capable of making a lot happen in a little time.

He was given the first yellow card of his career in the 76th minute when he snatched hold Andy Williams' jersey.

''If I'm getting hit, I'll hit you back. That's the way I see it now,'' Adu said. ''I'm not just going to let people hit me now and walk away with it. I didn't really mean to hurt him or anything, but I caught an elbow. I felt the ref didn't see it so I've got to do something to let him know that I'm not going to stand for this.''

Adu had a chance to tie the game in the 87th minute when he softly controlled a pass from Ryan Nelsen with his left foot, and then shot it over the bar.

Ralph made a clever run through the United defense to score the only goal in the 57th minute, beating Nick Rimando with a low shot to the left corner.

The first 5,000 fans to show up for the game received the bobbleheads.

''I've seen it, it's pretty funny,'' Adu said. ''It looks like my uncle Tony.''
