German Chamber of Commerce Raises Money for Statue with Second Bobblehead Doll Sale

(Ulm, Germany) - After a successful Hermann the German bobblehead campaign, the New Ulm Chamber of Commerce plans to sell bobbleheads portraying Hermann's wife, Thusnelda. 

The city started selling the statuettes to pay for refurbishing its 32-foot-tall statue of a First-Century German warrior who helped defeat the Romans. The copper-over-steel statue is the second largest of this type in the U.S. — the Statute of Liberty is the largest. 

Thusnelda bobbleheads will be sold staring next month to help celebrate Octoberfest. 

The bobbleheads of Hermann were a hit, selling out quickly in the mostly-German southern-Minnesota city. 

Known officially as The Hermann Monument, the Hermann the German statue has stood guard over New Ulm for 106 years. New Ulm officials hope to have the statue back in place for the city's 150th anniversary celebrations next year.
