Senator John McCain Bobbleheaded as a Fire Fighter

It was only a matter of time. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is now a bobblehead doll. 

He and three other lawmakers — Sen. Paul Sarbanes (D-Md.), Rep. Curt Weldon (R-Pa.) and House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) — have been immortalized as 8-inch-tall bobbleheads.

Their likenesses, bouncing heads and all, were given out by the Congressional Fire Services Institute (CFSI) to guests at the 16th annual National Fire and Emergency Services Dinner last week. 

The four lawmakers are co-chairmen of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus. The other co-chairmen — Sens. Joe Biden (D-Del.) and Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-Colo.) and Reps. Sherwood Boehlert (R-N.Y.) and Rob Andrews (D-N.J.) — will receive the same treatment next year, said a CFSI spokesman, perhaps forgetting that Campbell will be retiring this year.

“Anything for the fire service,” shrugged Weldon, a former fire chief in Marcus Hook, Pa., and founder of the caucus. 

McCain was also presented with a firefighter’s ax in honor of his work for the caucus. 

Master of ceremonies Hal Bruno, the former political director for ABC News and a former volunteer firefighter, commented: “I think there are a lot of people in Washington who’d be nervous to see Senator McCain with an ax like that.”
